What happened: Jacoby Brissett reported to Arizona Cardinals mandatory minicamp this week but is currently a hold-in while seeking a contract extension. The veteran quarterback is scheduled to earn less than five million dollars in 2026, which is less than the guaranteed salary currently owed to his backup.

Why it matters: While Brissett threw for over 3,300 yards and set career highs in multiple categories last season, the team managed only one victory in his twelve starts. Paying a premium for a bridge starter who does not translate individual production into team wins is a mistake for a franchise that needs a fresh start. Winning is the only stat that truly counts for a starting quarterback in this league.
