What happened: Isack Hadjar triggered the first red flag of the Monaco Grand Prix weekend after crashing his Red Bull RB22 during the opening practice session. Hadjar lost control at the exit of the Swimming Pool chicane, sliding across the kerbs before making significant nose-first contact with the barriers.

Why it matters: The incident caused substantial damage to the front-left suspension and wing of the Red Bull, prematurely ending Hadjar's session while he was running in the top five. The setback puts the young Frenchman on the back foot at a circuit where track time is critical, particularly as teammate Max Verstappen also reported handling difficulties with the RB22's balance.

By the numbers: Hadjar finished the session in 13th place despite completing only 14 laps before the accident. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc led the session with a 1:13.978, followed by Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen, the latter trailing by 0.513 seconds.

What to watch: Red Bull mechanics will work to repair Hadjar's car ahead of Free Practice 2, where he will look to recover lost data on the soft compound tires.
