What happened: The Philadelphia 76ers selected Labaron Philon Jr. with the 22nd overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Philon comes off an Alabama season that pushed him into the first round as a guard with scoring and playmaking value.

Why it matters: Philadelphia adds another young ballhandler for the upcoming 2026-27 season. The pick gives the 76ers a developmental guard option as they shape the backcourt around their existing core.

By the numbers: Philon was taken 22nd overall. He averaged 22.0 points, 5.0 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 50.1% from the field and nearly 40% from 3-point range in his sophomore season at Alabama, according to recent draft coverage.

What to watch: Next comes Philadelphia's post-draft roster construction and Philon's role in summer league. The 76ers still have to sort out how quickly he can earn rotation minutes.
