What happened: AC Milan director Igli Tare said the club is confident and very optimistic that Luka Modric will remain with the Rossoneri next season. Modric signed through June 2026 with an option for an extra year, and Milan have been trying to secure his decision before the summer.

Why it matters: The update matters because Modric's future has been tied to Milan's competitive outlook and Champions League status. Milan entered the weekend third in Serie A on 67 points after 35 matches, so keeping the 40-year-old would be a continuity win for a club still fighting to lock in a top-four finish.

What to watch: Watch for Modric's formal decision on the extension option and whether Milan mathematically secures Champions League qualification. His recovery timeline after April's facial surgery will also shape when he can rejoin full club activity.
