What happened: Sandy Alcantara completed his fifth start of the month Monday. Four of those outings ended with one earned run or fewer.

Why it matters: The run follows Alcantara's rise to the franchise strikeout lead in June and his franchise innings record on Aug. 9. His late-season form comes after he missed the entire 2024 season following Tommy John surgery.

By the numbers: Across 33 August innings, Alcantara has allowed five earned runs.

What to watch: His next scheduled start will test whether the run prevention carries into September.
