What happened: Freeman earned his first MLS start in 2025 before debuting for the USMNT later that year. He moved to Villarreal in 2026 and added a Champions League debut during a breakout World Cup.

Why it matters: His path adds a top-flight wide option with major-tournament minutes to the player pool. Holding a starting role at 22 has made him a steady presence in the current camp setup.

What to watch: Watch whether he keeps a regular role at Villarreal while retaining his starting place in the next camp.
