The season is moving into its eighth night of games. Now Anthony Edwards joins Jalen Williams, Cason Wallace and Jaren Via @TheSteinLine on X

What happened: Marc Stein reported Tuesday that Edwards is the latest star slated for a surgical procedure as the 2026-27 NBA regular season enters its eighth night of games. Oklahoma City lost both Williams and Wallace to multi-month surgical recoveries on Monday after Williams suffered a dislocated left ankle and fractured fibula and Wallace tore the labrum in his left shoulder. In Utah, Jackson was diagnosed with a torn MCL in his right knee.

Why it matters: The opening-week wave of long-term absences immediately tests Western Conference roster depth. Wallace's shoulder procedure comes just days after he signed a contract extension with the Thunder on Oct. 19, leaving Oklahoma City without five rotation pieces from its championship run.

By the numbers: Oklahoma City sits at 4-0 following Monday's 125-114 win over the Phoenix Suns, while Utah stands at 1-3 after a 110-105 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. Jackson's right knee injury carries a 6-to-8-week recovery timeline.

What to watch: Teams will issue post-operative updates and recovery timetables once the upcoming surgical procedures for Edwards, Williams and Wallace are completed.
