What happened: Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli enters the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas with an opportunity to clinch the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship at age 20. Speaking ahead of the Austin race weekend, Antonelli noted he was four years old playing with Hot Wheels when Sebastian Vettel set the youngest-champion mark in 2010 and only watched that race years later.

Why it matters: Vettel captured his first title at the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at age 23 in a four-way finale against Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber, and Lewis Hamilton. Antonelli, who claimed his maiden Formula 1 victory at the Chinese Grand Prix in March, would lower the championship age benchmark by roughly three years.

By the numbers: Antonelli holds a 102-point lead in the drivers' standings over Mercedes teammate George Russell entering the Austin weekend. To clinch the title on Sunday, Antonelli must win the race while Russell finishes outside the top eight and Hamilton finishes outside the top four.

What to watch: If Antonelli does not seal the championship at the Circuit of the Americas, his next title opportunities follow at next weekend's grand prix and the subsequent round in Brazil.
