What happened: Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll were knocked out in the opening round of qualifying at Marina Bay. Alex Albon, Sergio Perez, Valtteri Bottas, and Isack Hadjar also failed to advance.

Why it matters: Starting near the back of the 22-car grid severely limits scoring opportunities for the team. Overtaking is notoriously difficult on the street layout, placing a heavy reliance on pit strategy and safety car timing to make up ground.

By the numbers: Max Verstappen secured his 50th career pole position, becoming the fifth driver in Formula 1 history to reach the milestone.

What to watch: The Singapore Grand Prix will take place on Sunday.
