What happened: The Colorado Avalanche placed goaltender Trent Miner on waivers. Defenseman Ilya Solovyov cleared waivers Sunday after hitting the wire the previous day.

Why it matters: Miner's placement paves the way for an assignment to the AHL after he opened the season on the injured list. Solovyov will report to the AHL, preserving organizational options for Pittsburgh after thinning left-side depth over the summer.

What to watch: Other NHL clubs have 24 hours to submit a claim for Miner before he can be officially assigned.
