What happened: Rice enters the scheduled matchup after a five-hit Wild Card Series that included two homers. The Yankees slugger also joined Lauren Shehadi ahead of first pitch.

Why it matters: New York starts with a 2-0 series lead, and Rice's two-homer Game 1 has already put him at the center of the matchup. Another productive night would keep one of the Yankees' hottest bats in focus as the series resumes.

By the numbers: Wild Card Series: 5-for-9, 2 HR.

What to watch: Watch whether Rice carries that recent power into a game that begins with the Yankees ahead 2-0 in the series.
