The second year is a player option

Wire Report IntelligenceUpdated Aug 271 min read

What happened: ESPN's Shams Charania says Mathurin chose flexibility over longer offers carrying full team control. New Orleans had pursued him aggressively for more than a year.

Why it matters: The move gives Mathurin a clearer route to a starting role after limited starts with the Clippers. New Orleans is trying to improve on a 26-56 season.

By the numbers: In 54 games split between Indiana and LA in 2025-26, Mathurin averaged 17.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 30.0 minutes. He started once in 26 appearances with the Clippers.

What to watch: Training camp will define Mathurin's role alongside Saddiq Bey.
