What happened: Bichette sustained a left foot contusion when he fouled a ball off his ankle Wednesday. Juan Soto felt good after live batting practice and running drills, though weather limited Thursday's work to mostly indoor activity.

Why it matters: New York enters the rubber match against Milwaukee at 60-73, sitting 11.5 games out of a wild-card spot. The Brewers lead the National League at 82-51.

By the numbers: Bichette entered Wednesday batting .265 with a .311 on-base percentage and .393 slugging percentage. Jonah Tong has allowed two earned runs across 14.1 innings in his past three combined outings and has a 3.60 ERA over his past seven.

What to watch: The Mets will reassess Soto on Friday. Andy Green said the club will continue monitoring Tong's progress.
