What happened: Fischer called his December move from Sarnia to Sault Ste. Marie the best development of his career after captaining a struggling club. The 2024 second-round pick is likely headed to Springfield this season.

Why it matters: The trade gave the defenseman his first playoff experience in three years and a chance to refine his puck management. His expected move to the professional ranks makes training camp the next test of that progress.

By the numbers: Fischer finished the OHL regular season with 44 points in 65 games, including 26 points in 39 games after the trade. He added one goal and five assists across 10 playoff games after totaling 99 points in 192 regular-season games with Sarnia.

What to watch: Watch whether Fischer earns a regular role with Springfield during the upcoming 2026-27 season.
