What happened: Owen Eshelman's interception set up a Boise State touchdown after the game had been tied 10-10. Coach Kirby Moore said Eshelman and running back Kirby Vorhees were not on the same page on the play.

Why it matters: At 1-7, Washington State is out of bowl contention before November for the first time since 2010. The remaining games give Moore time to develop Eshelman, who made his second career start.

By the numbers: Washington State allowed four sacks against Boise State. Its running backs gained 20 yards on 10 carries.

What to watch: Washington State visits San Diego State on Oct. 31, then hosts Colorado State after a bye.
