What happened: Tampa Bay clinched its berth with a 7-3 win over Cleveland to set the Brewers-Rays pairing. ESPN slots the matchup No. 13 among World Series pairings since 2000.

Why it matters: Milwaukee ended a 44-year pennant wait dating to 1982. The Series puts two clubs outside the recent winners circle on the October stage amid competitive-balance debate and looming labor uncertainty.

What to watch: The clubs now set rotations and rosters ahead of Game 1 in the 2026 World Series.
