Brian Bonner Jr. leads Washington ground game with 89 yards at USC

19 carries set Huskies’ season best for individual rusher

What happened: Washington fell 25-21 at No. 18 USC on Saturday for its second straight loss. Bonner took every handoff for 19 carries and 89 yards, with runs of 16, 13, 9 and 8 and no breakaway to inflate the total.

Why it matters: The outing came against the second-toughest run defense Washington has faced this season. With three backs sidelined into November, the freshman has moved past sixth-year Trey Cooley, who played six snaps Saturday.

By the numbers: Bonner: 19 carries, 89 yards, long 16; entered leading Huskies at 5.7 yards per carry. Team: 116 rushing yards; entered No. 124 nationally in rushing and No. 25 in passing at 288.5 per game.

What to watch: Center Landen Hatchett could return from a wrist injury as soon as next week. Washington aims toward 150 rushing yards to balance its pass-heavy offense.
