Brian Ching named first Houston Dynamo Ring of Honor inductee

The former forward scored 69 goals for the club.

What happened: The club scheduled the induction for Oct. 17. Ching retired after the 2013 season following a 13-year MLS career.

Why it matters: Ching helped Houston win consecutive MLS Cups in 2006 and 2007. He earned MVP honors in the 2006 final after scoring the equalizer and converting the decisive penalty.

By the numbers: Ching recorded 69 goals across all competitions, including 56 in regular-season play. He made 45 international appearances and was selected to six MLS All-Star teams.

What to watch: The Oct. 17 ceremony will formally open the club's Ring of Honor.
