What happened: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers chose defensive end Rueben Bain Jr. from the University of Miami with the 15th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Bain, a disruptive edge rusher, impressed with his speed and power off the edge. The selection addresses a key need in Tampa Bay's defensive front.

Why it matters: Tampa Bay's pass rush ranked 22nd in sacks during the 2025 NFL season, prompting this investment in young talent. Bain's college production projects him as a Day 1 starter opposite veterans like Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. The pick strengthens the Bucs' defense amid playoff aspirations in the NFC South.

By the numbers: Draft Slot: No. 15 overall (Round 1) College: Miami (2025 stats: 11 sacks, 18 TFL, 3 FF) Combine: 4.68 40-yard dash, 34-inch arms Team Need: Pass rush (2025 sacks: 38, 22nd in NFL)

What to watch: Monitor Buccaneers' Day 2 selections for offensive line help; Bain's rookie minicamp performance.
