What happened: Baltimore's 2025 deadline deal with San Diego is still producing developmental depth, with Brandon Butterworth and Victor Figueroa pushing back into the club's prospect conversation after their 2026 work. Butterworth hit .269/.377/.497 with 10 home runs in 52 games at Double-A Chesapeake before earning a promotion to Triple-A Norfolk. He also returned from a knee injury in early May and posted a .953 OPS over his first 27 games back.

Why it matters: The Orioles gave up Ryan O'Hearn and Ramon Laureano in a seven-player deadline swap, so the secondary pieces matter when the club measures the full return. Butterworth's defensive versatility and any continued rise from Figueroa could influence Baltimore's upper-minors depth and future bench planning.

By the numbers: Butterworth started at least eight games at second base, shortstop, third base, left field and center field, with 33 starts at shortstop. After the move to Triple-A, he batted .208/.296/.396 in 28 games. Laureano finished with a .660 OPS for San Diego before a season-ending labrum injury in May.

What to watch: Arizona Fall League reps give Butterworth another test against upper-level pitching after the long injury layoff. Winter prospect rankings and roster decisions will offer the next read on how much value Baltimore sees in that trade package.
