What happened: CBS Sports said Friday that it and Tony Romo mutually agreed to part ways, ending his run on the network's lead NFL announce team. The network said J.J. Watt will stay alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson for the rest of the season, with the rest of its crews unchanged.

Why it matters: The move formalizes the break after CBS put Romo on indefinite leave following his July 23 arrest in Milwaukee. In September, he entered a no-contest plea through an attorney and was ordered to complete an alcohol assessment, pay a $784 fine, accept a six-month license revocation and use an ignition interlock device on vehicles in his name.

By the numbers: Romo spent nine seasons at CBS. The court order in the Milwaukee case also set a Nov. 2 deadline for the fine; missing it triggers a one-year license suspension.

What to watch: CBS's lead NFL booth is now set with Watt, Nantz and Wolfson for the rest of the season. The next dated marker in Romo's case is the Nov. 2 fine deadline in the court order.
