What happened: Franco Colapinto is set for an additional grid penalty for Formula 1's Bahrain GP in Malaysia after Alpine fitted a new Mercedes V6 engine. He had already carried a five-place drop into Sepang from last weekend's collision with Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris in Baku.

Why it matters: The added demotion deepens the recovery job before Sunday and raises the traffic Alpine will have to manage over a full race distance. It also extends the fallout from Colapinto's Baku clash into the next stop of the triple-header.

By the numbers: Colapinto's penalty stack already included five places from Baku, and the engine change adds another hit after Alpine moved to a fifth Mercedes V6 unit.

What to watch: Watch the final steward-confirmed grid to see where Colapinto slots in once every penalty is applied. Any further power-unit changes elsewhere could still reshape the back end of the order.
