What happened: Washington hired Steve Wilks to work with its defensive coaches under Dan Quinn and Daronte Jones. The decision was made last month and Wilks started last week. He will help with game planning and will not be with the team on game days.

Why it matters: The move adds a veteran defensive voice to the game-planning process during the regular season. It keeps day-to-day direction with Quinn and Jones while adding support behind them.

What to watch: Watch whether the additional game-planning help shows up in Washington's upcoming defensive plans.
