What happened: The Washington Commanders received active trade interest in defensive tackle Daron Payne before his recent foot injury, per Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. Payne suffered a season-ending Jones fracture during practice on Friday and was ruled out.

Why it matters: Payne's injury removes a proven interior defender from the market ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles have rebuffed trade inquiries for running back Saquon Barkley, intending to keep him in Philadelphia.

By the numbers: Payne made 46 tackles with 3 sacks in 15 games last season (2025) with the Commanders. Washington originally drafted him in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, 13th overall, out of Alabama.

What to watch: The NFL trade deadline closes on Nov. 10 at 4:00 PM ET as contenders evaluate alternative defensive line targets.
