What happened: Sidney Crosby has also begun contract negotiations and wants to play for several more years. Derek Lalonde's appointment was announced July 20, according to the [club's personnel log](https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/topic/personnel-moves/).

Why it matters: For David Reinbacher, establishing his role remains a task entering the 2026-27 season, in Corrado's assessment.

By the numbers: Crosby's current contract totals $17.4 million and expires after the 2026-27 season.

What to watch: Watch for an agreement on the length and value of Crosby's next contract.
