What happened: Brian Schottenheimer told reporters Thursday that while nobody likes criticism, he blocks out most of the noise and accepts media scrutiny as part of the position. Citing his 'strong shoulders' and belief in his coaching pedigree, Schottenheimer acknowledged his frustration while vowing to roll up his sleeves and get back to work.

Why it matters: The remarks come during a rocky stretch for a head coach who called the Cowboys' performance 'pretty poor' following an earlier September defeat. Despite the slow start and mounting defensive questions, Dallas ownership stated Wednesday that the franchise intends to buy rather than sell in the trade market.

What to watch: Dallas hosts its next contest Sunday with the NFL trade deadline set for Nov. 10.
