What happened: The Dallas Cowboys are securing a proven asset to rebuild their struggling defense. While the Chicago Bears previously elevated him to a head coaching role, Dallas is strictly focusing on his ability to call plays on one side of the ball.

Why it matters: The Cowboys defense sits last in EPA per drive over a 22-game sample size since trading Micah Parsons, putting massive pressure on the new Cowboys' DC hire. Putting a coordinator back in his specialized element provides a major schematic advantage and proves some elite coaches are simply miscast at the top job.
