Cowboys' latest defensive push does not make them contenders

Dallas has already used 12 defensive backs in three games after back-to-back 7-win seasons.

It might seem somewhat surprising Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and front office investing further with Joey Porter Jr trade Via @WerderEdNFL on X

What happened: Jerry Jones is still investing in Dallas even though the current roster is being compared to the past two Cowboys teams that won seven games with great offense and weak defense. Dallas treated the secondary as an immediate need, and the team has already used 12 defensive backs in three games.

Why it matters: That is not the profile of a defense that is one addition away from fixing its identity. If Brian Schottenheimer's formula is elite offense covering for the same structural problems on defense, Dallas looks more like a repeat of its recent ceiling than a true contender.
