What happened: The organization recalled Valencia from Triple-A Toledo. He will wear uniform number 32 during his inaugural stint in the big leagues.

Why it matters: The transaction adds immediate catching depth to the active roster during the 2026 regular season. The front office made the move to address an opening at the position following an injury to Dillon Dingler.

By the numbers: Valencia slashed .267/.353/.486 for Toledo this season prior to the call-up. The 26-year-old previously hit 24 home runs across Double-A and Triple-A in 2025.

What to watch: Valencia awaits his major league debut as Detroit continues its regular season schedule.
