What happened: Dingler captured the 2026 defensive honor behind the plate on Thursday, earning the recognition for the first time in his major league career.

Why it matters: The award validates the two-way emergence of the backstop who paced American League catchers in homers and RBI. Earlier Thursday, ballots from more than 260 MLB peers also placed him on the Sporting News AL All-Star Team.

What to watch: Gold Glove and Silver Slugger announcements follow next on the MLB awards calendar.
