Congratulations to Randy Dobnak and Tyler Tolbert, our July Pitcher and Player of the Month award winners! https://t.co/ Via @Royals on X

What happened: Dobnak received the pitching award, while Tyler Tolbert claimed the player honor. Tolbert tied the MLB record with hits in 12 consecutive plate appearances on July 7.

Why it matters: Dobnak added needed rotation depth after injuries thinned the staff. The honors recognize individual gains during a season in which Kansas City entered August below .500.

By the numbers: Dobnak entered his July 29 start with a 1.42 ERA, 10 strikeouts and nine walks over 19 innings. Tolbert's record-tying streak covered 12 consecutive plate appearances.

What to watch: Dobnak's next rotation turn and Tolbert's August playing time will show whether their July form carries forward.
