What happened: The split closes Romo's stint in CBS Sports' lead NFL booth after the network sidelined him during the summer. CBS put Romo on leave until further notice, and the temporary booth shuffle is now a permanent break.

Why it matters: The decision locks in a regular-season broadcast change instead of a short-term pause. It also turns an off-field issue into a lasting overhaul for one of the league's most visible TV jobs.

What to watch: Watch for CBS to clarify its booth plan for the rest of the season. Any public statement from Romo would also shape what comes next for his broadcasting future.
