What happened: Super Bowl XVII champion Joe Theismann expressed strong optimism about the upcoming 2026 season for the Washington Commanders. The organization has been working through the offseason to overhaul its foundation and establish a new identity.

Why it matters: Positive sentiments from franchise icons do not instantly fix glaring talent issues across the depth chart. Climbing out of the NFC East basement will demand multiple successful draft classes before this squad can truly challenge established playoff contenders.
