What happened: Ezequiel Duran posted 17 Outs Above Average in 2026, the highest defensive total among all American League Gold Glove recipients. The mark comes after Duran won the 2026 AL utility Gold Glove Award for his defensive versatility. Duran is now on the ballot for the AL Platinum Glove Award.

Why it matters: Outs Above Average measures defensive range and play-conversion, highlighting Duran as the league's top statistical defender among award winners. His multi-position flexibility provided elite defensive value across both the infield and outfield during the 2026 campaign. That defensive foundation bolsters his profile heading into the 2027 season.

What to watch: Fan voting for the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award remains open through the conclusion of balloting. Winners will be announced following the tally of national fan votes and defensive metrics.
