What happened: Magbegor is one of six players returning from Australia's 2024 Olympic bronze-medal team. Australia will face Puerto Rico, Türkiye and Belgium in Group C.

Why it matters: The Opals will have only three days together before the tournament, placing a premium on continuity. Group winners advance directly to the quarterfinals; second- and third-place teams enter qualification games.

By the numbers: Australia won World Cup gold in 2006 and has six medals overall: one gold, one silver and four bronze.

What to watch: Australia opens against Puerto Rico on Sept. 4, then meets Türkiye on Sept. 6 and Belgium on Sept. 7.
