What happened: Columbus and Toronto play Tuesday in their first meeting since the Matthew Knies-Kirill Marchenko swap finalized a day before the regular season. Adam Fantilli said Columbus needed players who want to be in Columbus and called carrying the standoff all year a nightmare. Knies said the timing shocked him after going through camp and preseason with Toronto.

Why it matters: Toronto added long-term certainty after Marchenko stayed noncommittal through Columbus camp and signed a six-year extension after the deal. Columbus reset around the same Adam Fantilli who signed a six-year, $82.5 million deal in September plus a 24-year-old winger. The rematch offers an early measure of fit and cost for both sides.

By the numbers: Marchenko: 10 points in 10 Toronto games, including a hat trick against Buffalo. Knies: four points in his first two Columbus games, then scoreless in five. Columbus tenure: Marchenko recorded 218 points in 302 games after selection in the second round in 2018.

What to watch: The clubs meet Tuesday for the first time since the swap. Knies faces his former club while Marchenko faces Columbus for the first time.
