What happened: Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Fernando Mendoza made his first career NFL appearance on Sunday. The No. 1 overall pick entered the game for a single drive in relief of Kirk Cousins.

Why it matters: The rookie's debut follows early-season scrutiny over his lack of playing time on the bench. His brief stint provides a first look at the top draft selection in a live regular-season setting.

By the numbers: Mendoza connected on 6 of 8 pass attempts for 48 yards during his time on the field. Starter Kirk Cousins finished the day 19-of-28 for 243 yards, one touchdown, and three sacks.

What to watch: Attention now turns to whether Mendoza will see an expanded role next week against the Bills.
