What happened: Charles Leclerc paced Friday's early FP2 soft-tyre runs at 1:35.291 to sweep both opening sessions at Circuit of the Americas, and Lewis Hamilton led FP3 after Leclerc's fastest lap was deleted. Despite leading all three practice sessions with its four-part SF-26 aero upgrade, Ferrari failed to find enough lap-time progression through Q3 and missed the front row.

Why it matters: Starting fourth and fifth leaves Ferrari on the second and third rows for Sunday's Grand Prix after entering qualifying as the field's benchmark. The Q3 drop-off erased the single-lap advantage the SF-26 held across Friday and Saturday morning running in Texas.

By the numbers: Ferrari topped all 3 practice sessions at Circuit of the Americas — with Leclerc posting a 1:35.291 benchmark in FP2 on a 4-part SF-26 aero upgrade — before qualifying P4 (Leclerc) and P5 (Hamilton).

What to watch: Leclerc and Hamilton launch from P4 and P5 in Sunday's United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas.
