What happened: Cooper Flagg won Kia NBA Rookie of the Year for 2025-26 after leading Dallas in total points, rebounds, assists and steals. He joined Michael Jordan as the only rookies to pace their teams in all four categories since steals became official in 1973-74.

Why it matters: The four-category lead shows full-time initiation plus defensive responsibility, not scoring alone. It sets the baseline for Year 2 as Dallas continues building around its 2025-26 rookie centerpiece.

By the numbers: 2025-26: 1st on Dallas in total points, rebounds, assists, steals; 21.0 points per game to lead rookies; 2nd rookie since 1973-74 with Jordan to lead team in all four.

What to watch: Dallas opens the 2026-27 season on the road. Flagg's initiation load and defensive assignments are the early watch points.
