What happened: The Calgary Flames are back on home ice Thursday night, hosting the Colorado Avalanche in preseason action at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.

Why it matters: Calgary is searching for traction under head coach Ryan Huska after dropping its last five games. The Avalanche arrive as heavy road favorites and dominated the head-to-head series late last season.

By the numbers: Colorado won both matchups between the clubs this past spring by a combined score of 12-3, including a 9-2 victory on March 30. The Avalanche are currently averaging 3.5 goals per game compared to Calgary's 2.4.

What to watch: Watch for how recently recalled forwards Jonathan Castagna and Aydar Suniev factor into the lineup as the Flames attempt to break their skid.
