What happened: Elliotte Friedman said on 32 Thoughts that meetings had already taken place and were continuing Wednesday. Dylan Larkin requested a trade after last season and holds no-trade protection.

Why it matters: Detroit has missed the playoffs for 10 consecutive seasons, increasing the pressure on its next hockey chief. Larkin's three-team list limits the market and complicates efforts to secure a strong return.

What to watch: Watch for Detroit to complete its executive search before preseason. The hire will also face an unresolved contract negotiation with restricted free agent Simon Edvinsson.
