What happened: Mike Garafolo reported Shepard is signing with the Jets' practice squad. The former Giants receiver heads to Florham Park after spending camp with the Texans.

Why it matters: The move gives New York a veteran depth option without using a 53-man roster spot. It also gives Shepard another path back onto an active roster after his Houston stint ended before the regular season.

What to watch: The next step is whether Shepard stays on the practice squad or earns a game-day elevation if the Jets need receiver help. Any follow-up roster move will show how quickly New York plans to use him.
