What happened: Lewis Hamilton took responsibility for a strategic misstep during the Singapore Grand Prix after he opted not to pit under a virtual safety car. Race control initiated the caution on lap 39 when an Aston Martin stopped on track with a suspected clutch issue. Hamilton had completed 21 laps on soft tires at the time of the decision.

Why it matters: The choice to stay out on aging tires compromised his track position and effectively ended his bid for a podium finish. He apologized to his crew over the radio, acknowledging that his call cost the team valuable points in the standings.

By the numbers: Hamilton opened the grand prix in P3 but slipped to P6 by the checkered flag. Max Verstappen won the race from the pole, and Charles Leclerc secured second.

What to watch: The grid will regroup as the schedule advances through the final phase of the 2026 season.
