Hellebuyck makes Jets trade request public

The request was lodged privately several months ago.

What happened: Connor Hellebuyck said Thursday his position has not changed and called moving on the best path for his family. He hopes the situation is resolved before training camp.

Why it matters: Going public could revive a trade market that remained quiet through August. A deal would reshape the Jets’ goaltending plan for 2026-27.

By the numbers: Hellebuyck, 33, is entering the third season of a seven-year contract with five years remaining at an $8.5 million annual cap hit. He went 23-23-11 with a 2.86 goals-against average and .895 save percentage in 2025-26.

What to watch: Watch whether talks accelerate before training camp and whether Hellebuyck reports if no deal emerges.
