What happened: SportsCenter shared a clip of the Inside the NBA crew paying respects after the deaths of Brandon Clarke and Jason Collins. The segment followed the news of Brandon Clarke's death at 29 and Jason Collins' death at 47 after a battle with brain cancer. Both deaths were reported on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Why it matters: This is a significant league-wide mourning moment, not just a standard studio tribute. Clarke was an active NBA player, while Collins was a barrier-breaking former player, so the story carries emotional weight across teams, broadcasts and the ongoing playoff calendar. There is no clear betting-line impact tied to this tribute signal itself.

What to watch: Watch for additional league tributes, moments of silence and statements from teams and broadcast partners. Any official update on the cause of Clarke's death would also be a major next development.
