What happened: Cowing traced his approach to being overlooked as a two-star recruit and said the setback returned him to those roots. He stayed late after training-camp practices for extra punt-return work.

Why it matters: Special-teams production gives Cowing another route to a roster spot beyond receiver snaps. His evaluation is entering its final stage with leaguewide cuts approaching.

What to watch: The preseason finale offers one more game evaluation before the 53-man roster deadline.
