What happened: Indianapolis kicked off its roster teardown by agreeing to trade eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round selection. Following the dismissal of general manager Chris Ballard, the front office is also shopping defensive tackle DeForest Buckner while running back Jonathan Taylor sits on trade deadline watch.

Why it matters: New York entered the 2026 season holding three 2027 first-round picks, including the unprotected selection acquired from Indianapolis. Stripping veteran starters from an offense that just dealt its top interior blocker increases the likelihood that the Colts' pick lands near the top of the 2027 board alongside New York's own selection.

By the numbers: New York holds the AFC's No. 11 seed on a two-game losing streak after a 28-25 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 25, while Indianapolis sits at No. 12 on a three-game skid following a 16-10 road loss at the Minnesota Vikings. Nelson departs Indianapolis with an 85.7 PFF grade that ranks second among NFL guards.

What to watch: Additional veteran departures in Indianapolis ahead of the NFL trade deadline would further lower the Colts' projected win total over the remainder of the 2026 schedule.
