What happened: The New York Jets placed defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat on injured reserve Saturday following a knee injury suffered against the Miami Dolphins. The transaction sidelines Sweat for at least four games after he started six of the team's first seven contests. In corresponding moves, New York signed defensive tackle Payton Page to the active roster and elevated linebacker Quinton Bell from the practice squad.

Why it matters: New York sits at 2-5 after dropping two straight games, facing increasing pressure in the AFC standings. Sweat's absence creates an immediate void in the interior front, where he had anchored the defense with 17 tackles and two tackles for loss. Bell's elevation also indicates that edge rusher David Bailey will likely be inactive due to a groin injury.

By the numbers: Sweat recorded 17 tackles and two tackles for loss across seven appearances in 2026. Page previously posted six tackles across four games for the Jets in 2025, while New York enters Week 8 ranked 11th in the AFC at 2-5 following a 28-25 loss to Miami.

What to watch: New York returns to action on Sunday seeking to snap a two-game losing streak. Sweat will be eligible for activation in late November after completing the mandatory four-game minimum on injured reserve.
