What happened: Goaltender John Gibson stacked his pads to turn away a scoring bid from San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini during Saturday's NHL regular-season slate. Despite the stop, the same Macklin Celebrini who netted a shootout winner earlier in the week still put San Jose ahead off a setup from teammate Will Smith.

Why it matters: Celebrini was named captain ahead of the 2026-27 campaign and drives San Jose's top-line attack alongside Smith. Early-season chemistry between the young forwards gives the Sharks a consistent offensive threat even when opposing netminders erase high-danger looks.

What to watch: San Jose continues its early 2026-27 regular-season schedule as Celebrini and Smith log top-six minutes.
