What happened: New York opens its preseason against Philadelphia. Jose Alvarado will not play in the opener, which has not started yet.

Why it matters: Early preseason minutes decide opening rotation order. An opening absence shifts first looks elsewhere on the roster.

What to watch: Watch for New York's next availability update before its second preseason game.
